Arthur Miller

Arthur Miller is dead, for nearly a year now. And I don't think enough attention was paid to his life or his work. I've been missing him more lately because I realize that I don't enjoy too much current fiction or drama. Arthur Miller's characters were so important and noble, and despite all their human frailties, the knowledge that they reflected me and my society didn't cause despair (or boredom as too much modern literature tends to do). There was hope in those plays for goodness, because people reached for higher ideals, they were dignified. The characters' struggles weren't meaningless.
